"A lifestyle to adopt, collectively participation and harvest the fruit for sustainable work"- Robert Paul Frey

Mexico City- Dear readers, today I share with you an ideal, a legacy that was very firm in a community for its positive impact for peace issued for the simple love of humanity and a city, an example sustainable work may well be replicated in each of the corners where they are and where they surely are reading this.A couple of years ago I met Robert “Roberto”, an American from head to toe, blue eyes that simulated two biggest stars, a great contiguous smile that captivated everyone, and long white hair-like strands of wool perfectly toned to the white cloud, adorned with a red or blue head band. A native of Oakland, Robert studied Systems Engineering; he graduated and worked throughout his life until he finally retired. He always loved nature and social causes and after retiring, that was when Robert devoted himself full-time, heart and soul to his vocation, to help.
For more than 10 years, Robert lived in Ensenada, a port on the north, which is characteristic for its
vineyards, Mediterranean food and beautiful weather, Robert was involved in several environmental
initiatives, mainly by promoting a sustainable way of life. And in search of the transition of the community, inspired by his ideals, his work on environmental and so-called transition movement Rob Hopkins cities. You might wonder what is Transition and what it has to do with the environment? This is as simple as the word refers to prepare and modify our habits and become independent of fossil fuels such as petroleum products, so that all the initiatives implemented by Robert had this common ideal. To prepare Ensenada and its peopleand in turn reversing the impact process extending the life of these products and diminishing fossil human contribution to climate change. Oil over the years. My guess is that since some of you are familiar with the topic and the question we ask often is how long we will take the oil to meet the needs and whims of our daily lives, taking into account that our activities depend on the mix of organic compounds in a more than 40%? While in 2004 Colin Campbell and Jean Laherrere Geneva Petroconsult geologists predicted that the real shortage would begin in 2010, a couple of years but we still have supplies of this product the price of oil barrels effectively have increased by over 100%. We don’t have to be an economist to see the simple application of some of the laws of supply and demand. When at the current price, demand exceeds supply; the price tends to increase and affirming that different graphics on the trend of shortages of oil have been presented being the start in 2010. Picking up some data, in 2004 the cost of oil was about U.S. $ 40.00 and 6 years after the U.S. exceeds $100.00, a dramatic change in proportion to the scarcity of this product, which we are dependent.
Transition Ensenada was founded two years ago by Robert Frey and supported by activists as Tobias Gogolin, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Edgar Arturo Oliver among others. During this time the group and its members have conducted a vigorous campaign to raise awareness of this problem in young people, through documentaries, workshops, and events devoted to a sustainable lifestyle. In 2010, Robert began a trip around the country in pursuit of sustainable projects that could be replicated, and visited states like Chiapas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, among others.
Around the needs and thinking of the group Transition Initiatives Ensenada are based on four assumptions:
  1. It is unavoidable to live with lower power consumption and its better to plan for this than to be caught by surprise.
  2. Our communities and settlements currently lack robustness to enable them to weather the severe energy shocks that will accompany peak oil.
  3. We need to act collectively, and we must act now.
  4. Unlocking the collective genius of our community to creatively and proactively design our energy descent, we can build ways of living more connected, more enriching and that recognize the biological limits of the planet.
Based on these objectives, several initiatives were driven, creating a bike path, alternative spaces for gardens, green markets, one of the dreams of Robert was that with time you could live in a city with the idea in sustainability such as gardening work to sow seed types, have a family garden, with a collective participation to reap the fruits of sustainable work. In memory of Robert Paul Frey, a human integrity and unsurpassed, concerned about helping to create a better world Transitional Living!.
